A Senior Living Community Designed for Climate Resilience
How GasPros® interventions helped create a self-reliant, zero-discharge, low-carbon project in the heart of nature.
Project Overview
Sustainable Comfort for Senior Living
Located along the River Kaveri in Hachinad, Pachat village (Kodagu, Karnataka), Amarakosha is a thoughtfully planned senior citizen care commune built over 4 acres of lush green land.
The challenge was to design a living space that:
Protects the environment it stands on
Reduces building emissions intensity by half
Operates independently of public utilities
Offers comfort, safety, and dignity for senior residents
Our Approach
Integrating Nature and Technology for Net-Zero Carbon Living
This design reimagines buildings as climate assets — producing rather than consuming resources.
Distributed renewable energy: gas, solar PV, solar thermal, wind
Biogas generation from organic waste
Energy storage systems for resilience
Treated water reuse for landscaping
Indoor air quality enhancements & fresh water quality systems
Bio-fertilizer production to support local soil health
Key Impact Metrics
Measurable Gains from Design to Operation
Designed as a zero-discharge building project, ensuring minimal strain on local soil and water systems
Peak electric load reduced by 58% through phased efficiency:
From 17.95 kW to just 7.74 kW indoors
Annual resource recovery
4.38 lakh liters of water recovered and reused
12,775 kg of organic manure produced
Designed as a zero-discharge building project
Ensuring minimal strain on local soil and water systems
Strategy in Action
Four Steps to Low-Carbon Living
Adopt distributed energy systems — choose the right energy for each application
Use smart technology to reduce electricity demand
Implement resource recovery to offset operational costs
Integrate all EW&W systems to create circularity and optimize performance
Beyond Numbers Reclaiming Independence
By going off-grid, Amarakosha
Reduces reliance on public utilities like electricity and water
Shields residents from rising utility costs and outages
Creates a self-reliant community that gives back to its ecosystem
Aligns daily living with environmental stewardship and dignity
Conclusion & Next Steps
Carbon-Neutral, Climate-Resilient Living — Made Real
Project Amarakosha shows that sustainable design isn’t about sacrifice — it’s about smarter choices, circular thinking, and deep respect for nature. With GasPros® interventions, this senior living commune became a model of regenerative architecture in action.
